Lost in the City
This city is too much for me,
It's got me beaten,
It's got me down.
I am lost and lonely
In this lost and lonely town.
I need to be somewhere
Where I'll be as good as I can,
And I need to be someone
Who's better than I am.
This cold hard ground won't swallow me,
This world won't let me leave,
The fear of tears in future years
Stops my sole reprieve.
And every day
I just get older
And every day
I turn my shoulder
A little bit more to those who want to comfort me,
Though every time
I want them nearer;
And every time
It gets a bit clearer
That the price you pay for honesty
Is admitting you're too quick to say you're sorry.
These people are too much for me,
They've got me beaten,
They leave me cold.
I am lost and lonely
In this lost and lonely world.
